David N. Garrett is the owner and founder of Tax Help Doctor. He has a BS degree in accounting from Wayne State University (1966) and a Juris Doctorate (JD) law degree from Atlanta Law School (1979). He is not a licensed attorney. He is a retired senior Revenue Agent who worked for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for 32 years. During his career he was involved in many individual & corporate audits, review staff positions and teaching assignments. After retiring from the IRS in December 1999, he then started working for the State of Tennessee and became a senior tax auditor there. In that capacity, he was involved in audits of sales and use tax returns, franchise and excise tax returns and business tax returns. After 6 years, with the State of Tennessee, he retired (again) in December 2005 to go to work for a small tax law firm in North Georgia. He worked for them for approximately two years before starting his own firm.

For the years 2002 thru 2005, he also taught classes on a part-time basis for the IRS for its new employees. Currently, he is an enrolled agent. As an enrolled agent, he can represent taxpayers in any dealings with the IRS or State Revenue Departments regarding any tax disputes. However, he is not licensed to handle any court proceedings.

 

He has been married for 43 years to Kathryn Garrett who is an RN, and has three wonderful children, one (fantastic) daughter-in-law and one (great) son-in law (currently an IRS employee), and one (awesome) grandson.

David and Kathryn are members at Dahlonega United Methodist Church in beautiful downtown Dahlonega, GA.  They were previously members of Northpoint Community Church in Alpharetta, GA.
